Description

Haemoperitoneum is a common emergency encountered by small animal veterinarians. Patients with abdominal bleeding often present critically unwell and require rapid stabilisation and diagnostics, on top of involved communication with their humans! 

This one-hour webinar will explore the initial stabilisation, diagnostic tests, differential diagnoses and ongoing management of haemoperitoneum. There will be case based discussion and practical tips that will leave emergency and general practice veterinarians confident to manage patients at all stages from their arrival to hospital to their discharge home. 

Learning objectives of the session are: 
-  Assess cardiovascular stability 
-  Diagnose and treat haemorrhagic shock
-  Diagnose haemoperitoneum 
-  Review differential diagnosis of haemoperitoneum 
-  Diagnose cause of haemoperitoneum 
-  Understand treatment options for supportive and definitive management of haemoperitoneum
-  Understand prognosis of different causes of haemoperitoneum

Rebekah Donaldson

Dr Rebekah Donaldson, BVSc(hons) MVetMed DACVECC MRCVS

Rebekah graduated from the University of Queensland in 2012 and completed a rotating internship at Queensland Veterinary Specialists/Pet Emergency in 2013 before working in referral and university hospitals in Sydney and Perth. 
She completed a residency in Small Animal Emergency and Critical Care at the Royal Veterinary College in London, United Kingdom, with a concurrent Masters of Veterinary Medicine, in 2019. 
Rebekah became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care in 2019 and is a registered specialist in small animal emergency and critical care. She returned to Queensland Veterinary Specialists in 2019. 
Rebekah has published articles on mechanical ventilation and anaemia and has presented at international conferences including IVECCS (International Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Symposium).  Rebekah loves all aspects of critical care medicine including mechanical ventilation, transfusion medicine, septic shock and management of the critical post-operative patient.
