Description

Malassezia dermatitis is caused by the commensal yeast Malassezia pachydermatis. When dogs suffer from predisposing conditions such as allergic skin disease, cornification disorders, chronic or recurrent inflammatory skin diseases, it can become pathogenic. Identification of the underlying causes is the key to management success.

Peri Lau-Gillard DrMedVet CertVD DipECVD MRCVS

Mrs Lau-Gillard graduated in 1996 as a Veterinary Surgeon from the Ludwig-Maximilian University in Munich, Germany.
After completing her doctor thesis in 1999, she moved to the UK in 2000 and worked at two small animal practices in Nottingham as an assistant.
From 2001 - 2004 she has worked as a Scholar in Veterinary Dermatology the Animal Health Trust in Newmarket and was rewarded at the end of the training program the RCVS Certificate in Veterinary Dermatology.
In 2005 Mrs Lau-Gillard moved to the South West coast in the UK and worked for several years as a clinician and teacher at the Dermatology Service at Bristol University. During that time she had completed an ECVD recognised residency training programme. In the beginning of 2011 Mrs Lau-Gillard started her veterinary dermatology consultancy service in the South West/UK and in 2012 she successfully took the examination to become a Diplomat of the European College of Veterinary Dermatology.
Her main interest is canine and feline dermatology, particular allergic skin and ear disease.
In her private time Mrs Lau-Gillard enjoys walking her three dogs Buster, Dylan and Millipede in the beautiful Somerset country side. She is also a keen runner, attends regular classes in the gym and ballroom classes with her husband.
