Nursing Care of the Surgical Respiratory Patient
Nursing Care of the Surgical Respiratory Patient

Providing surgical nursing care for patients with upper at lower respiratory disease/pathology can often feel overwhelming. Such patients are accompanied by an inevitable element of risk, including potential complications and deterioration throughout the perioperative period and recovery.

This lecture will provide some top tips and evidence-based approaches towards clinical interventions & surgical nursing care, to boost your confidence in the perioperative care of these potentially complex patients.

The learning outcomes for this lecture include:

  • Preoperative nursing considerations for the upper and lower respiratory patient.
  • Essential perioperative patient care, monitoring requirements, and analgesia techniques.
  • Explore the requirements beyond 'kennel-side nursing' in recovery - the surgical nurse's role.
  • The ongoing nursing support and postoperative needs of surgical respiratory patients.
