Understand the unique clinical and pathophysiological features of feline anaemia. Learn how to investigate anaemia, using case examples and consideration of the valuable tests you can do in-house. How does classification of anaemia guide me in my approach? What do I look for on a blood smear? When might bone marrow sampling be needed? These questions and more will be covered with an emphasis on non-infectious causes of anaemia in cats.

After graduation from Bristol Veterinary School, Séverine spent time working in charity and private veterinary practice before moving to Edinburgh Vet School to complete an International Cat Care Residency in internal medicine with a focus on feline medicine. She then returned to the University of Bristol and completed a PhD in feline haemoplasmosis research. She is European boarded in small animal internal medicine and is an RCVS Specialist in feline medicine. She remained at Bristol and became Professor in Feline Medicine in 2016. From 2018 to 2025, she also had leadership roles within large veterinary organisations, overseeing quality improvement, education and clinical research. She then moved to the charity International Cat Care where she provides leadership on feline veterinary medicine and cat welfare issues across the organisation. She continues to hold a chair in Feline Medicine at the University of Bristol, where she teaches and engages in research, particularly in the fields of haematology, infectious diseases, feline medicine and longitudinal cohort studies. Séverine co-edited the BSAVA Manual of Feline Practice; A Foundation Manual and is a key opinion leader board member of the European Advisory Board for Cat Diseases. She has been awarded over £2.7M in research grants over her career and has written over 200 peer-reviewed papers and textbook chapters. She is a past recipient of the BSAVA Woodrow Award and the Petplan Charitable Trust Research Award and loves all things feline!
