A concept grown in practice, this lecture an introduction to a feline pain recognition tool that is about more than pain scoring, ticking a box or quantifying pain. Created for the species with subtle expression, it is about assessing our feline patients holistically to gather a 'global' picture of their pain status. Indicators such as appetite and body language with the addition of previous experience and stress, are all proven to attribute to pain signalment. I hope to inspire and empower care caregivers to assess patients as a whole and be advocates for multimodal analgesia.

I am currently working as an RVN in a busy multi-disciplinary referral hospital as a Diagnostics Nurse. My daily duties are centred around anaesthesia and supporting patients through diagnostics procedures. I am a Feline Friendly Advocate with a keen interest in pain management. I am also the lead Regenerative Medicine Nurse, helping to champion the use of stem cells in dogs. I strongly believe in patient advocacy and sharing knowledge with others. My top interests are anaesthesia,
analgesia, feline nursing and supporting new nurses and students.
