Lorna is an enthusiastic pathologist, whose experience ranges from teaching anatomical and clinical pathology at an undergraduate and postgraduate level to over 20 years of pathology service rendering (anatomical and clinical) to small and large animal practitioners, zoological collections, and laboratory animal and fish technicians and researchers. Lorna is also a technical NATA assessor.
Lorna has kept her skill and knowledge base current by regular attendance of continuing educational courses, reading journals and interaction with colleagues.

Louise graduated from Murdoch University in 1996, and worked principally in small animal practice. She completed her residency in Veterinary Anaesthesia and Critical Care at Murdoch University in 2007. Louise is a Diplomate with the European College of Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia and a Member with the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists in Surgery and Anaesthesia and Critical Care. She started a small private Veterinary Anaesthesia Consultancy in Perth nearly 10 years ago. Louise provides anaesthesia services primarily at a private referral hospital and conducts both anaesthesia case management and continuing eduction to general practice throughout the metropolitan area of Perth, Western Australia.

Louise O’Dwyer has worked at PetMedics, the UKs largest emergency clinic for the past 12 years and is currently Clinical Director. Louise holds both the Medical and Surgical Advanced Diploma in Veterinary Nursing as well as being a board certified veterinary technician specialist in Emergency and Critical Care. In 2012 Louise gained her MBA and is currently a part time PhD student at Manchester Metropolitan University looking at resistant bacteria in veterinary practice and their relevance in biofilms.
Louise contributes regularly to veterinary nursing articles, sitting on the editorial board of the Veterinary Nurse journal. Louise is the author of ‘Wound Management for the Veterinary Nurse and Technician’ and the forthcoming ‘Practical Techniques in Emergency and Critical Care Veterinary Nursing’.
Louise lectures regularly in the UK and internationally on a range of topics.

After qualifying as a Registered Veterinary Nurse in 2012, Louise completed her Certificate in Emergency and Critical Care with Vets Now in 2014, followed by her Advanced Nursing Diploma in 2016. Having worked as a nurse in general practice and referral hospitals, Louise now works as a Senior Emergency and Critical Care nurse at the Royal Veterinary College, as well as working as a tutor for the Vets Now ECC Certificate in her spare time. Louise enjoys all aspects of critical care nursing and has published articles on a range of ECC nursing topics. Louise is a representative of her local BSAVA committee, helping to organise CPD events in her local area.

In addition to his veterinary credentials, Dr. Ackerman also holds a Masters in Public Administration from Harvard University, a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix, a Certificate in Veterinary Practice Administration from Purdue University, and he is a Certified Valuation Analyst (CVA) through the National Association of Certified Valuators and Analysts (NACVA). He has extensive experience within the profession, with prior involvement in industry, private practice, academia, writing, and lecturing. He has authored or co-authored several books (including Five-Minute Veterinary Practice Management Consult, The Genetic Connection, Behavior Problems of the Dog & Cat, and Atlas of Small Animal Dermatology), and has lectured extensively on a global basis, on topics in both medicine and management.

Luca graduated with honours in 1992 from the University of Bologna. After 3 years research in endocrinology at the BBSRC Institute in Cambridge, he was awarded his PhD in 1996. Following 3 years as Assistant Professor at Padua University, Luca moved to Bristol University, where he taught cardio-respiratory medicine of the dog and cat for 7 years. In 2005-2007, he was Associate Professor in Cardiology at the University of Minnesota. He returned to the UK in 2008 working in various referral institutions, as well as offering telemedicine service and post-graduate teaching. He obtained the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) certificate in cardiology in 2001, the certificate in Teaching & Learning in Higher Education in 2002, the ECVIM diploma (cardiology) in 2004 and a Certificate in Business & Professional Studies in 2011. In 2019, Luca was awarded a Fellowship of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons for his Meritorious Contributions to Clinical Practice. Luca has also vastly contributed to the veterinary literature with articles, abstracts, and book chapters, including the chapter on coughing in the two latest editions of Ettinger’s textbook of Internal Medicine. He also acted as chairman of the ECVIM examination committee and was member of the RCVS examination board and BSAVA congress committee. Luca is a regular speaker worldwide. His main professional interests include feline cardiology, exercise physiology, as well as investigation and management of syncope and coughing.

Lucy qualified from Cambridge as a veterinary surgeon in 1997. After several years in practice, where she passed her RVCS Certificate in Small Animal Medicine, she joined the Royal Veterinary College where she completed a PhD in clinical and immunological aspects of canine diabetes mellitus in 2004. This was followed by a residency in Small Animal Medicine in Cambridge, where she passed her RCVS Diploma in Small Animal Medicine and DipECVIM-CA examinations in 2006, becoming a European Specialist in Small Animal Medicine (re-accredited 2011).

Graduated at the Faculty of Veterinary medicine of the University of Milan, obtained 2 years later the Board in Small Animal Practice in the same Faculty and attended the Course of Cardiology in dogs and cats at the University of Turin.
He was as Visiting Professor for six months at Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Georgia (Athens USA) and visited further several Veterinary Teaching Hospital abroad (Davis CA, Ft Collins CO, Philadelphia PA, Gifu Japan). He presented more than 100 topics in Italy, U.S.A., U.K., Spain, Slovenia, Greek, Poland, Croatia, Japan, Cuba, Czech republic, Bulgaria, Serbia, Russia about Parasitology and Cardiology and is author and co-author of more than 30 papers on “Internationally peer reviewed journals”, two books about Heartworm disease, three books about Small animal Parasitology and one about Cardiology of dogs, cat and horses. He works in cooperation in research projects with the Faculties of Veterinary Medicine of Milan, Parma, Zagreb and the Faculty of Biology of Salamanca.
He is member of the American Heartworm Society, Feline Heartworm International Council, SOIPA, ESSCAP and WAAP, and is vice President of the European Society of Dirofilariosis and Angiostrongylosis
Since 2006 he is a Diplomate of the EVPC (European Veterinary Parasitology College).
He works in the fields of Cardiology (both medicine and surgery) and Clinical Parasitology.

Lydia’s desire to be a vet stemmed from her upbringing on a thoroughbred horse stud and her exposure to James Herriot’s All Creatures Great and Small. Following graduation from the University of Melbourne in 2002, she worked in mixed practice in Kilmore, Victoria for the following 4 years. Lydia then gained further experience by working as a locum across a range of small animal and equine clinics in Victoria and South Australia. In 2008, she took the opportunity to work with two veterinary volunteer groups; the Esther Honey foundation in the Cook Islands and Vets Beyond Borders in India. Upon her return to Australia, Lydia completed a residency in small animal medicine at the Melbourne Veterinary Specialist Centre. In 2012, she gained her fellowship in small animal medicine through the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists and became a registered specialist in small animal medicine. Since then Lydia has been working at Advanced Vetcare in Melbourne. She is actively involved in continuing education through her work with the University of Melbourne (tutoring final year veterinary students at U-Vet Werribee) and the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists (where she is head of the small animal medicine examination committee). Lydia’s special interests include cardiology, neurology and endocrinology.

Lydia is a 2009 graduate of Purdue University’s bachelor’s degree program in veterinary technology, where she then began her career in critical care and surgery at Purdue’s Large Animal Hospital before moving to the diagnostic imaging department in 2015. In her current role, Lydia performs advanced imaging exams daily on a diverse range of small, exotic, and large animal patients, including radiography, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, nuclear scintigraphy, and fluorography. She has been a member of the AVTDI since 2020 and currently serves as chair of the credentials committee and a member-at-large on the executive board. Lydia is also an accomplished ultra-cyclist with Randonneurs USA, completing prestigious events such as London-Edinburgh-London and Paris-Brest-Paris. When she’s not on the bike she enjoys camping with her husband, reading a good book on the couch surrounded by her five cats, or taking the llamas (2) and dogs (2) down to the creek for a swim.
