Aaron Herndon

Aaron is originally from the USA where he completed his DVM from Texas A&M University in 1998. After spending a few years in the US Army Veterinary Corps, Aaron spent the next 10 years in small animal private practice in Connecticut and Texas. During this time, he practiced emergency-exclusive, general, and exotic animal practice. Aaron always wanted to focus on teaching and clinical research, so in 2010 he returned to academia to pursue a combined PhD and Small Animal Internal Medicine residency at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma. The focus of his graduate research was in feline diabetes and novel treatments for the disease. He joined the faculty at the University of Queensland School of Veterinary Science in 2015 where he is a Senior Lecturer in Small Animal Internal Medicine. Aaron’s clinical research focus is in the field of endocrinology.

Dr. Stern is an Associate Professor of Forensic Pathology at the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine. He received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Prince Edward Island, Atlantic Veterinary College. He is a Board-Certified Veterinary Pathologist and has expertise in veterinary forensic pathology. At the University of Florida, he currently teaches an elective course on Veterinary Forensic Pathology and a veterinary forensics clinical rotation. Dr. Stern is a member of the International Veterinary Forensic Sciences Association and is the immediate past President of the association.

Alana graduated from the University of Queensland in 2005. After graduation, she worked in Veterinary Schools at the University of Queensland and University of Adelaide for several years, during which time she completed small animal rotating and radiology internships, was awarded MANZCVS (Radiology), commenced an MPhil program, and enjoyed teaching veterinary students. In 2012, Alana began a residency program in Diagnostic Imaging at Cornell University in New York, and become a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Radiology in 2015. Alana is excited to have now returned home to Brisbane. She enjoys all aspects of diagnostic imaging in all species, and has particular interests in cross-sectional imaging and diagnostic ultrasonography (including guided sampling / treatments). Alana also continues to enjoy teaching within the veterinary profession.

Alasdair is an internationally recognised orthopaedic specialist and is currently the only specific orthopaedic specialist in registered Victoria. He worked for 11 years in general practice followed by spending the last 11 years in specialist orthopaedic practice. As well as his clinical duties he regularly lectures nationally and internationally and is an honorary lecturer for the University of Liverpool. Prior to moving with his family and joining the Veterinary Referral Hospital (VRH) -Hallam in January 2018, he spent the previous 7 years in one of the busiest orthopaedic referral clinics in the UK. This clinic had a large case load of high performance working dogs and competition agility dogs, as well as plenty of pet dogs, with many of these dogs sustaining fractures. He has a wealth of experience in returning these dogs to function and has continued to enjoy fracture fixation at VRH.

Dr. Carranza Valencia arbeitet als Oberärztin mit Fokus Research Track in der Abteilung Innere Medizin für Kleintiere der Kleintierklinik Bern. Im Februar 2023 hat sie ein PhD im Thema Feline infektiöse Peritonitis angefangen.

Alex’s clinical interests included thromboembolic disease and transfusion medicine.

Dr. Bersenas is an Associate Professor in Clinical Studies at the Ontario Veterinary College (OVC), University of Guelph, Canada. She is the Chief of the Emergency & Critical Care Service at the OVC Health Sciences Center since 2008. Dr. Bersenas has been a faculty member at OVC since 2004.
Dr. Bersenas graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College and completed a small animal rotating internship at the Atlantic Veterinary College in Prince Edward Island. She worked in small animal practice for 2 years in Toronto and subsequently returned to academia. She completed a residency in Emergency & Critical Care and a concurrent Masters in Science, at the OVC, from 2001-2004.
Dr. Bersenas has an interest in respiratory and renal failure as well as feline medicine, analgesia, and the provision of exceptional nursing care. In addition to patient care, Dr. Bersenas enjoys student (undergraduate and graduate) teaching, and active participation in Continuing Education. Beyond veterinary medicine, she enjoys travelling, the outdoors, and family and friends.

Dr. Le Roux became a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging in 2012, and a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Radiology in 2014. During his residency at LSU, he also started a Master of Science about histological and ultrasonographic correlation of small intestinal layering in dogs, that he completed in 2015. Dr. Le Roux has a special interest in gastrointestinal imaging in dogs and cats.

Alison qualified as a veterinary nurse whilst working in a small practice in Hertfordshire. In 2001 she joined the Queen Mother Hospital at The Royal Veterinary College as a general surgery nurse working in all areas of the hospital. In 2005 she became senior theatre nurse and sat her Diploma in Advanced Veterinary Nursing (Surgery) gaining the highest marks for that year.
In 2007 she became Head Theatre Nurse and in 2012 became the first nurse in the UK to study for and pass the Veterinary Technician Specialist (Surgery) qualification in the USA.
Alison has co-written the theatre chapters in the BSAVA Textbook of Veterinary Nursing and the BSAVA Manual of canine and feline Advanced Veterinary Nursing. She has written articles for the VNJ and The Veterinary Nurse and spoken at BSAVA and BVNA conferences.
On a daily basis Alison manages seven operating theatres and a team of specialised theatre nurses in the multidisciplinary hospital. She enjoys all aspects of hands on theatre nursing and in particular the cardiothoracic patients undergoing open heart surgery.
