VSEARCH x IDEXX Renal Project Training for Svenska Veteringrgruppen Vets and Nurses
This webinar provided a comprehensive overview of the SDMA implementation project running from November 3 for one month across participating Nordic clinics. It outlined the project’s objectives — to integrate SDMA testing into routine biochemistry profiles for dogs and cats, enabling earlier detection of kidney dysfunction — and explained the practical workflow for clinics. Participants learned how to enroll, how to order Chem 18 or Chem 11 bundles (paying the Chem 17 price while receiving SDMA free of charge), and how to ensure data accuracy through proper sample handling, age entry, and simultaneous analysis of SDMA and chemistry panels.

The session also covered the clinical rationale behind SDMA testing, highlighting its role as a sensitive marker of glomerular filtration rate (GFR) that increases earlier than creatinine and is unaffected by muscle mass or diet. The team reviewed IRIS-aligned diagnostic criteria and staging recommendations, the value of trending results over time, and the importance of combining SDMA data with urinalysis for a complete renal assessment. Participants were introduced to the vLearn educational resources, diagnostic algorithms, and specialist consultation support available during the project. The webinar concluded with a review of how results will be analyzed and shared back with clinics in early 2024, inviting participants to contribute interesting cases for the follow-up meeting.
