Associate/Prof Thierry Beths joined the University of Melbourne (UoM) Veterinary Hospital in February 2012, working in the Anaesthesia and Analgesia department. He did a residency in Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia at the University of Glasgow (UK) from 1997to 2000. In 2008, he obtained from the same University a PhD on developing a Target Controlled Infusion (TCI) system for propofol in dogs.
He has a strong interest in animal welfare and pain management. He is the chair of one of the UoM Melbourne Animal Ethic committee (since 2016) and a Cat A member (since 2014) for the Wildlife Small Industry AEC (Agriculture Victoria). He is an active member (since 2018) of the Animal Welfare Advisory Committee (Agriculture Victoria).
He has a certification (CVA) in Veterinary Acupuncture from the Chi Institute and China National Society of TCVM, Florida (USA), and a certification (CVPP) of Veterinary Pain Practitioner from the International Veterinary Association of Pain Management (IVAPM). In 2020, he graduated from the University of Edinburgh (UK) with an MSc (Dist.) in Clinical Pain Management. He recently started training in Canine Rehabilitation through the University of Tennessee (USA) and hopes to graduate as a Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner (CCRP) by the end of 2026.

Thierry Francey hat an der Universität Bern Tiermedizin studiert. Nach 3 Jahren Praxis hat er in Bern und Baton Rouge (Louisiana, USA) mit einem Internship und einer Residency seine Spezialisierung in Innerer Medizin erreicht. Er ist Diplomate des American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) und des European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ECVIM-CA).
Thierry Francey hat sich in Nephrologie / Urologie mit einem Fellowship an der University of California Davis weiterspezialisiert. Dort ist er dann als Dozent in Innerer Medizin für drei weitere Jahren geblieben. In 2005 ist er nach Bern zurückgekommen und hat die Leitung der Abteilung Innere Medizin für Kleintiere an der Vetsuisse Fakultät Bern übernommen. In 2007 hat er auch die klinische Forschungsgruppe NephroBern gegründet und die Dialysestation eröffnet. Seitdem hat er zahlreiche Veröffentlichungen im Bereich der Kleintier-Nephrologie publiziert und ist in mehreren internationalen Expertenkreisen aktiv.

Thurid graduated in Veterinary Science from Leipzig University, Germany, and then completed a PhD with focus on canine and feline urinary tract infections at Massey University in New Zealand.
She undertook a rotating internship at the Veterinary Specialist Group in Auckland, New Zealand, and after a residency training in small animal internal medicine Dublin, Ireland, became a board-certified specialist (DECVIM-AC) in 2009. Upon completion of the residency training, Thurid once again pursued her research interests in urinary tract diseases and antimicrobial resistance of bacteria, before working in a large private small animal hospital in Southern Sweden.
In 2013, Thurid joined the team at University of Melbourne Veterinary Hospital as lecturuer and clinician in small animal internal medicine. Thurid has lectured both undergradutates and practitioners in several different countries, and strives to deliver continuing education that is mind-stimulating, up-to-date and reflective of her passion to provide the best possible care to veterinary patients.

Dr Tim Nuttall is an RCVS Specialist in Veterinary Dermatology. He did his residency and PhD at the University of Edinburgh Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies. He then spent 12 years at the University of Liverpool before returning to the Dick Vet as Head of Dermatology in August 2013. Tim runs a busy referral dermatology clinic, with particular interests in atopic dermatitis and antimicrobial resistance.
Tim has written over 100 clinical and scientific publications, and has presented over 150 lectures throughout the world. In addition, Tim has served on RCVS, BSAVA, ESVD, WCVD and DEFRA scientific committees, the International Committee on Atopic Diseases in Animals, and is a scientific advisor to the Bella Moss Foundation and the journal Veterinary Dermatology. In 2014 he received the BSAVA Woodrow Award for outstanding contributions to veterinary medicine.
In his spare time Tim enjoys Munro-bagging (all 284 should be climbed by September!), cycling and single malt whisky.

Tobias graduated from the Tierärztliche Hochschule in Hannover in 1999 and then spent 3 years working in a mixed animal practice and a small animal clinic in Germany before starting as an emergency vet in central London. He joined Vets Now in 2003, working as a Senior Vet in Stoke-on-Trent, Edinburgh and Glasgow. He completed a Vets Now-Residency in Emergency and Critical Care at the University of Glasgow and acquired “Specialist” status by becoming board certified as a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care in 2013 in San Diego.
Tobias has lectured worldwide at different veterinary meetings, including the largest International Emergency Symposium (IVECCS, USA) and the largest European Veterinary Congress (BSAVA, UK). He has published various veterinary articles in English and German and is chairmen of the British Association of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care (BAVECC). He was previously nominated for the “Pet Plan Vet of the year” and won the “Vets Now Referral Clinician of the year” award in 2013. He is currently leading the ECC referral service and is the director of the internship programme at our Glasgow hospital.

Tom graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2014. He worked in a mixture of charity practice and referral hospitals before joining the surgery team at Langford Vets in 2018 as a surgical assistant. He went on to complete an ECVS residency in Small Animal Surgery and was awarded a European Diploma in Small Animal Surgery in 2023. He is now one of the senior surgeons in small animal soft tissue surgery. His particular interests are minimally invasive surgery, urogenital surgery and wound management and reconstruction.

Tony Glaus hat das Studium 1986 am Tierspital Bern abgeschlossen, im Anschluss in der Abteilung für Neurologie doktoriert und von 1987-1991 an der Klinik für Kleine Haustiere als Assistent gearbeitet. Nach einer Residency von 1991-1994 an der Universität von Georgia in Athens und board certification 1994, wurde er Oberarzt an der Klinik für Kleintiermedizin.
Seit 1999 ist er Leiter der Abteilung für Kardiologie, seit 2004 habilitiert, seit 2008 Stellvertreter der Klinikdirektorin und seit 2010 Titularprofessor.
Er ist Diplomate des American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (subspecialty small animal internal medicine) und des European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine of Companion Animals (subspecialties internal medicine and cardiology).
Seine Forschungsschwerpunkte sind pulmonäre und systemische Hypertonie und Angiostrongylose.

After completing a research degree in animal production, Trepheena made the change to animal health and became a veterinarian. She worked in general practice for 8 years before moving into behaviour practice in 2012. Trepheena undertook specialist training and is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Behaviorists and a registered Specialist in Animal Behaviour. Trepheena has worked extensively in private behaviour practice and shelter behaviour. From 2015-2018, she managed the behaviour department in a large open-intake shelter, as the Animal Behaviour Manager and acting General Manager of Animal Welfare. Trepheena currently works in private behaviour practice through her practice, Wild Things Veterinary Behaviour Services, in Melbourne. She continues to consult for shelters, rescue groups and other animal organisations, lectures at conferences around Australia, and teaches shelter staff, trainers, veterinarians, and veterinary students.

Dr Trudi McAlees is a New Zealand veterinarian and Massey graduate who after starting her career in a mainly dairy practice, headed off to the UK for the obligatory period of locum work and travel. After a short period in small animal practice in Auckland, Trudi then moved to Melbourne to pursue a 2-year position in Emergency Medicine and Critical Care at the University of Melbourne teaching hospital but stayed for 10 years before returning to private practice. She is currently at The Referral Centre in Hamilton, New Zealand.
Trudi is committed to post-graduate education. She is passionate about improving the ability of practitioners to deal with emergencies, and hopes to decrease the anxiety that can accompany these cases when they present. Trudi has a particular interest in analgesia, ventilation and multi-trauma cases. She presents the Sydney University Distance Education course in Emergency Medicine.
Trudi has memberships of the Australian & New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists in Anaesthesia and Critical Care, and in Emergency Medicine and Critical Care and was the first person to achieve Fellowship in Emergency Medicine and Critical Care in 2008.

Anne graduated from Purdue University in 2011 and completed a small animal rotating internship at Louisiana State University. Before joining the RVC in 2014, she participated in cardiology research fellowships at Michigan State University and Nihon University in Japan. Anne is a Cardiopulmonary Bypass Fellow. She is interested in all aspects of cardiology, although she is particularly interested in valvular diseases.
