Feel the rhythm: Interpreting ECG’s during anesthesia
Anesthesia is a part of daily practice and can influence the cardiovascular system in many ways. Apart from the influence of different drugs on the myocardial function and blood pressure, the electrical pathways of the heart can also be influenced. Arrhythmias may be preexisting, but they can also develop during anesthesia. Arrhythmias are concerning not only because they can be a result of organic cardiac disease but also because they can contribute to hypotension and decreased organ perfusion and can potentially be fatal.
During this webinar, we'll look at the most frequently encountered arrhythmias during anesthesia, and when and how to intervene.

Valérie Bavegems

Valérie Bavegems DVM, PhD

I am Valérie Bavegems and I graduated from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Ghent University (Belgium) in 1995. After acquiring some work experience at the same faculty and in two private practices, I embarked on a specialization in small animal cardiology at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Ghent University (Belgium). I dedicated several years to obtaining a doctoral thesis titled “Clinical cardiological parameters in Whippets”, and until October 2016, I was responsible for cardiology consultations and theoretical lessons related to the cardio-respiratory system.
After a brief period in several private practices, I worked for a veterinary pharmaceutical company for two years. However, the passion for my field led me back to clinical practice, where I wholeheartedly focus on cardiology for pets again.

"The animal's quality of life and communication with the owner will always be my main goals."
