What are veterinarians and human doctors confronted with, and which actions do we need to take.

Psy i koty to towarzysze naszego życia, często traktowani jak członkowie naszych rodzin. Łączy nas z nimi nie tylko więź, ale także wspólna przestrzeń, w której przebywamy. Część pasożytów, których są żywicielami może przenosić się na ludzi. Kilka gatunków pasożytów, bardzo często spotykanych u naszych czworonożnych przyjaciół, może powodować bardzo poważne schorzenia u ludzi. Świadomość o tym zagrożeniu jest jak do tej pory niewielka. Z drugiej strony część zagrożeń ze strony pasożytów jest przez lekarzy, niekoniecznie słusznie, zbytnio podkreślana. Zadaniem dla nas wszystkich jest przedstawianie prawdziwej sytuacji , obalanie starych, niesłusznych przekonań oraz ostrzeganie i alarmowanie przed realnymi zagrożeniami. Wszystkie działania powinny prowadzić do stworzenia dobrego i bezpiecznego środowiska dla nas i dla naszych zwierząt zgodnie z ideą „One Health”.

Câinii şi pisicile fac parte acum din familiile noastre şi împart cu noi, nu numai sentimente cât şi spaţiu şi mediu de viaţă. Unii dintre paraziţii lor sunt transmisibili la om. Paraziţii foarte frecvent întâlniţi la animalele de companie pot provoca la oameni boli grave mai puţin cunoscute. Pe de alta parte boli mai putin grave sunt considerate de catre medici o amenintare pentru sanatate. Rolul nostru este acela de a prezenta cat mai real lucrurile , de a combate vechile mituri şi legende şi de a avertiza împotriva riscurilor reale, răspândind conceptul “One health” (Sănătatea oamenilor cât şi a animalelor de companie).

Kutyák és macskák családunk részévé váltak. Az érzelmi kötődés mellett megosztjuk velük a körülöttünk lévő világot. Külső és belső élősködőik közül vannak, amelyek emberekben is megtelepedhetnek. Néhány élősködőjük nagyon gyakori és komoly, kevésbé ismert betegséget okoz emberekben. Néhány közülük viszont szükségtelenül rettegett a humán orvosok szemében. Mindannyiunk feladata, hogy tisztában legyünk a tényekkel eloszlassuk a régi kételyeket, legendákat, figyelmeztessünk a valós veszélyekre és továbbítsuk az egységes egészség, egészségi státusz koncepciót.

Psi a kočky jsou nedílnou součástí našich rodin, sdílíme s nimi nejenom pocity, ale taky prostor a prostředí. Vzhedem k tomu, že někteří jejich parazité jsou přenosní také na člověka, je důležité se v dané proble matice zorientovat. U domácích mazlíčků se často vyskytují parazité, kteří mohou způsobit velice závažné, málo známé zoonózy. A naopak, lékaři se některých onemocnění neopodstatněně obávají. Úlohou každého z nás by mělo být odhalit pravou podstatu problému, vyvrátit staré mýty a legendy, ale varovat před kutečnými rizikami, šířením konceptu “jednoho zdraví”.

The last 12 months have seen refinements in the management of tick paralysis, and release of new options for tick prevention for pets. I will take the audience through the Guide to Diagnosis, Management, Treatment and Prevention of Tick Paralysis which was authored by the Australian Paralysis Tick Advisory Panel in 2016. This document was a collaborative effort of veterinarians in general and specialist practice, academia and industry which provides a consensus for current treatment of dogs and cats with tick paralysis. I have also been involved in a large- scale study of tick paralysis management of cats, and have already changed some of the ways I approach these patients. I will share some of the insights with the audience, as well as revising the big picture of what we are trying to achieve in tick paralysis management.

This webinar will look at ways to reduce the risk of TP in dogs & cats. These will include use of registered tick preventative products (detail products), check pet daily (technique), reduce exposure to ticks in environment, remove any tick immeditaley & seek veterinary attention. We will also explore clinical signs of TP, a brief overview of diagnostic approach, treatment protocols, and managememt of the complicated patient, home care after veterinary treatment of TP, feline patients - the differences and some tips on ticks.
