We will start with two webinars about snake envenomation in companion animals. We will cover the various symptoms that can occur after a snake bite and how to treat those patients.
Next, we will cover ticks and toads. How to treat toad intoxications and tick paralysis? We won’t forget about the prevention of ticks either.
Finally, we added a webinar about heat strokes. You will learn all you need to know about cooling, coagulation and decision making when dealing with an overheated patient.
Rob Webster BVSc (hons) FANZCVS (emergency medicine and critical care)
Rob Webster graduated from The University of Queensland in 2000. He went straight into emergency practice at the Animal Emergency Centre in Brisbane and never left! Rob embarked on a training program in emergency medicine and critical care under the guidance of Prof Steve Haskins in 2006. As well as studying towards his Australian certification, Rob started the Animal Emergency Service in 2005. Rob passed the fellowship examinations and registered as a veterinary specialist in 2014. Animal Emergency Service currently has 5 practices on The Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Brisbane, and Perth. Robs clinical interests are mechanical ventilation and critical care of patients with tick paralysis (Ixodes holocyclus).
Mr Dominic Barfield BSc BVSc MVetMed DACVECC DECVECC FHEA MRCVS
Dom graduated from the University of Sydney and worked in general practice in the surrounding suburbs for 5 years before returning to the country of his birth (UK) to seek further postgraduate training in Emergency and Critical Care. He has remained at The Royal Veterinary College since joining in 2008 and is a Diplomate of the American College of Emergency and Critical Care. He misses Australia daily, even though he actively recruits Australians to the RVC.
Dr Peter Best
Peter graduated in veterinary science in 1976, completed a Diploma in Veterinary Anaesthesia at the University of Sydney in 1977 and the Fellowship of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists in 1982. Peter is a registered specialist in Veterinary Anaesthesiology and is held in high regard by the veterinary profession for his surgical ability. Peter's clinical skill was acknowledged by the Australian Veterinary Association by his appointment as "Small Animal Practitioner of the Year" in 1991. An avid reader of the scientific journal "Nature", Peter's brain has continued to expand to the point where it has displaced most of the hair from the front of his head! Although now retired, Peter is still well known and active in both the industry and local community.
Dr Samantha Livingstone BVSc (hons) MANZCVSc (E&CC)
Samantha graduated from the University of QLD in 2011 with honours. She then went on to practice in small animal clinics in the north shore of Sydney for 2 years before moving to Darwin where working afterhours awakened her love of emergency and critical care. After moving back to Brisbane in 2015 she worked in afterhours clinics before starting at Brisbane Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care in mid 2015. Since then Samantha has attained her memberships in Emergency and Critical Care and has found a true passion in caring for our Emergency patients. Samantha’s areas of special interest include trauma patients and toxicology.
