Following closed head trauma traumatic brain injury is relatively common. It is seen most often in cats hit by cars and in young animals that are accidentally stood on. Key aims of management are to minimise the consequences of the primary injury. And to maximise the chances of the patient making a good recovery. In this webinar you will learn what to prioritise and focus on when treating traumatic brain injury. You will also hear about some of the more contentious aspects around its management.

Shailen Jasani MA VETMB MRCVS DACVECC

Shailen has spent the last fourteen years working in Emergency and Critical Care (ECC). This has been as a primary clinician and as a supervisor, trainer and mentor in both the referral and the primary care settings. He became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care in 2010. Shailen has a particular interest in helping to progress veterinary ECC in the non-referral setting. Relevant projects include an online community called Veterinary ECC Small Talk. And sole authorship of a book on small animal Emergency Medicine aimed at primary care practice. In recent years Shailen has also created a small animal Emergency Medicine app. Shailen is currently founding The Ralph. This will be a new multidisciplinary specialist referral hospital in the South-East of England expected to open in 2018. The hospital will include both a referral ECC service and a primary care emergency service. A new affiliated charity will also operate from the premises.
