Catheter placement

Catheter placement
Catheter placement

Emergency and critical care medicine is an exciting and rapidly evolving area of veterinary medicine. It affords our most seriously ill and injured patients a chance at recovery. In order to achieve a good outcome, it is essential that these patients are closely monitored and any necessary emergency procedures performed appropriately and in a timely fashion. This webinar will cover the practical aspects of placement of a variety of tubes and catheters that can be easily placed and used in a practice setting.

During the webinar, we will cover how to perform urinary catheterisation for bladder emptying and urine output monitoring, as well as placement of arterial catheters for blood sampling and direct arterial blood pressure measurement. We will also discuss the recommended technique for placement of a thoracostomy tube for the treatment of pleural space disease, including both trocar and MILA drains. Finally, we will discuss how to best perform an emergency tracheostomy. Whilst there will be a significant focus on the practical aspects of the tube and catheter placement, there will also be consideration of indications and required device management to ensure their safe and ongoing use following placement.
