Feline diabetes - a spoonful of sugar

Diabetes mellitus is a commonly encountered feline endocrinopathy. However is now reasonable to expect remission in the majority of our patients, if we achieve an early and rapid return of normoglycaemia. To maximise the chance of emission, we need to use a long acting insulin, and consider intensive blood glucose monitoring, introduction of a high protein, low carbohydrate diet, weight loss for obese cats, and increased physical activity.
