Liquid Biopsy is a minimally invasive technique to detect cancer early in dogs and cats, or to make a diagnosis. It may also be used to monitor therapy or to investigate potential relapse. This has become an increasingly high profile development area in veterinary medicine as new techniques become available, especially the detection of biomarkers in the blood or other liquid samples. This lecture will look at what is currently available and how best to access and use these techniques in clinical practice. We will also look at horizon techniques and the use of genomic medicine to make a transformational change in clinical practice. The use of multipack comics, large scale date and liquid biopsy offers a major opportunity to improve cancer outcomes.
