This lecture will look at the maintanance requirements of commonly (and some less commonly) placed tubes, catheters and drains in veterinary practice. We will look at aspects such as the importance of aseptic technique, cleaning technique and patency checks. What to do if things go wrong will also be covered. Devices to be covered include: Feeding tubes (nasogastric, oesophagostomy, gastrostomy), Nasal oxygen catheters, Tracheostomy tubes, Chest drains (including trochar and seldinger drains), Abdominal drains, e.g. Jackson Pratt drains, Venous catheters including peripheral and central catheters, Arterial catheters.
