Although sodium disturbances are very common in clinical veterinary patient, its management has been considered a challenge and misconceptions regarding treatment of dysnatremias are very common. This webinar is designed as a step-by-step guide to help the busy veterinary practitioner with management of patients with hyper or hyponatremia. It covers the basis of sodium physiology and applied physiology, include water balance regulation and various hormonal systems involved. The seminar focuses on 4 clinical scenarios with chronic hyponatremia, acute hyponatremia, chronic hypernatremia and acute hypernatremia. The attendee will gain understanding on which fluid to choose, how to create it, how much to give and how fast. The consequences of mismanagement of sodium disturbances will be covered as well.

Julien Guillaumin

Julien Guillaumin, Dip ACVECC, Dip ECVECC Associate Professor - Clinical Small Animal Emergency & Critical Care

Dr Guillaumin graduated from the French Veterinary School of Nantes in 2001. After graduation and a Small Animal Internship (Surgical emphasis) in the French Veterinary School of Alfort, he practiced in France in both private practice settings (Argenteuil, Versailles) and academia (SIAMU in the French Veterinary School of Lyon, currently Vet Agro Sup). He completed his ECC residency training at the University of California in Davis, and has been a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care since 2009. He is also a diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care. He spent 10 years as a faculty member at The Ohio State University and is now a faculty at Colorado State University.
