Dr. Karol A. Mathews graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 1980, obtained the Doctor of Veterinary Science degree in Small Animal Surgery in 1986 and Board Certification in the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care (Diplomate ACVECC) in 1993. Dr. Mathews was Service Chief Emergency & Critical Care Medicine, OVC 1989-2009, President of the Veterinary Emergency & Critical Care Society 2002-2004, and Chair of the WSAVA Global Pain Council–Guidelines. She is a recipient of the 1999 CVMA Small Animal Practitioner of the Year Award, the 2002 ACVECC Scientific Achievement Award, the 2002-2004 University of Guelph Presidential Distinguished Professor Award, and the 2009 Ira M Zaslow VECCS Award for Distinguished Service.
Dr. Mathews is a national and international speaker at scientific conferences, is author and co-author of many scientific journal publications and chapter in several veterinary textbooks. She is the editor of the 1st, 2nd & 3rd editions of the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Manual, co-editor of Analgesia & Anesthesia for the Ill or Injured Cat and Dog (2018), and guest editor for Veterinary Clinics of North America, Small Animal Practice, July 2000 and November 2008.
Currently, she is an active University of Guelph Professor Emerita.

Kat Crosse graduate from the University of Cambridge in 2006 and started her career as a mixed animal practitioner in the south of England. In 2009 she moved to NZ to undertake an internship in small animal surgery at Massey University and successful completion of Memberships thought the Australian and New Zealand College the following year. In 2012 she started her residency training back at Massey University and became a Diplomate of the ECVS in 2016. Since that time, she has been working as a senior lecturer at Massey University, running teaching, referral clinics and building a research portfolio. Her specific interests lie in soft tissue surgery, especially surgical oncology, and the treatment of trauma.

Kate became a Diplomate of the American College of Theriogenologists in 2013. She lectures to the veterinary undergraduates and works as a specialist clinician in the Reproduction Clinic at the Onderstepoort Veterinary Academic Hospital.

Kate has been a Veterinary Nurse for almost 20 years, she has spent time in general practice and working for a registered training organisation, however the majority of her career has been spent in an Emergency hospital setting. She currently works full time for Animal Emergency Services at Tanawah in Queensland. In 2019 Kate achieved her Veterinary Technician Specialist in Emergency and Critical Care through AVECCTN in America and is one of only 11 to currently hold this qualification in Australian. Additional qualifications include Diploma in Veterinary Nursing in Emergency and Critical Care, Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and is both a Registered Veterinary Nurse and Accredited Veterinary Nurse through the VNCA. She was a finalist for VNCA's Veterinary Nurse of the year in 2017 and enjoys staying up to date by regularly undertaking continuing education. Her interests include transfusion medicine, toxicities, neonate care and mechanical ventilation. She lives at home with her husband, 2 human kids, 3 Devon Rex's, a bull arab and horses and cattle.

Nach drei Jahren kehrte Sie als Oberärztin Intensivmedizin ans Tierspital in Zürich zurück. Im Jahr 2023 verließ Katharina die universitäre Umgebung, um in einer privaten Überweisungsklinik zu arbeiten.

Kath graduated from the University of Sydney in 2003, graduating with first class honours and the University Medal. Kath worked in private small animal practice in Sydney and the UK for three years. In 2006, Kath completed her internship in small animal medicine at the University Veterinary Teaching Hospital, Sydney after which she completed her Fellowship training program in feline medicine. In 2008, Kath attained membership of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists in feline medicine. During her residency, Kath completed a research project on the pathology of feline low grade alimentary lymphoma and inflammatory bowel disease. Kath has a keen interest in all aspects of canine and feline medicine, and is also passionate about providing continuing education for veterinary practitioners. After 5 years at the University of Sydney, Kath joined the team at the Animal Referral Hospital, Sydney, she also passed her Fellowship examinations in June 2012 and is now a registered specialist in Feline Medicine. She has recently made a sea-change and is working at Pacific Vetcare in Coffs Harbour – a first opinion practice. Years of referral practice have allowed unique insights into ways in which a primary accession clinic might improve the health of its feline patients and provide superior services to their owners. Dr Briscoe is also keen to ensure general practitioners are well versed in what can be achieved in their own clinics and at what stage one should consider referral.

Katie qualified and registered with the RCVS in 2012 after studying at MYF in Aldershot, UK. She started working at the Royal Veterinary College shortly after this, and transferred to the Emergency and Critical Care department of the QMHA in 2013. Katie is appointed as a Senior ECC Nurse, helping to lead the team of 30 Specialist RVNs in the largest veterinary ECC department in Europe. Katie is a member of the BVNA and BSAVA, is currently a regional representative for the BSAVA; and has written articles for a number of journals. Outside of work, Katie enjoys spending time with her two Springer Spaniels, Flo and Martha.
