Martina graduated from the Veterinary University in Vienna, Austria. Over the following 10 years she was involved in the building-up of the Clinic of Veterinary Anaesthesia and perioperative Intensive care in Vienna and completed a residency in Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia in Bern, Switzerland. She became a specialist in Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia in 2005 (Diplomate of the European College, Dip ECVAA). Between 2007-10 she held the position of a senior lecturer in Anaesthesia and Analgesia at the Veterinary Faculty at Liverpool University. From 2010-16 she was a senior clinician & lecturer at the Division of Anaesthesiology, Vet-Suisse Faculty, Zürich University, Switzerland. During her time in Zürich she also submitted her ‘Habilitation’ and got awarded the title of ‘Privatdozent’ (PDhabil). In 2016 she joined the veterinary anaesthesia team at Murdoch University in Perth, Western Australia as senior lecturer for teaching & research. 
Her main research interest is in pulmonary ventilation and gas exchange in anaesthetized and awake animals with lung disease and comparative respiratory lung physiology and pathophysiology using electrical impedance tomography (EIT) and volumetric capnography. She is currently the Head of the Clinical Unit of Anaesthesiology and Perioperative Intensive-Care Medicine at the Vetmeduni Vienna
