Dr. Michael Aherne is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Cardiology at the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine. He is originally from Ireland where he graduated with a first-class honors degree in Veterinary Medicine from University College Dublin. After graduating, he subsequently spent several years in small animal general practice in Queensland, Australia before completing his rotating internship at the University of Sydney in Australia where he also completed a Graduate Diploma in Veterinary Clinical Studies and was also successfully admitted by examination as a Member of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists in 2012. Following a brief return to private practice in Sydney, he then moved to the USA to complete his cardiology residency as well as a Master’s degree in Biomedical and Veterinary Science at the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine, Virginia Tech and became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Cardiology) in 2017, following which, he took up his current position at the University of Florida. His areas of interest include cardiac surgery, interventional cardiology, congenital cardiac disease, electrophysiology, advanced cardiac imaging techniques and veterinary education.

Michelle has published on numerous infectious diseases, antimicrobial stewardship, nutrition, spectrum of care, veterinary- and pet-owner education related topics. She keeps busy (and humble!) with two teenage daughters, one husband, multiple 4-legged creatures, and numerous imperfect projects in various stages of completion on her farm in PEI, Canada.

Michelle LeRoy practices veterinary dermatology at the Veterinary Allergy and Dermatology Clinic in Overland Park, KS. She received her Bachelor of Science in biology with a minor in French from Kansas State University in 2008. She continued her education by completing a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2012 from Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Upon completion of her degree, she completed a one-year rotating small animal internship at VCA Mission Animal Referral and Emergency Center in Mission, KS and then worked for a short time in general practice. She then completed a three-year residency under the guidelines of the American College of Veterinary Dermatology both at Veterinary Allergy and Dermatology Clinic and the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine in Columbia, MO. Dr. LeRoy achieved Diplomate status with the American College of Veterinary Dermatology in 2016. She is currently an adjunct assistant professor at the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine where she teaches dermatology coursework and is a clinical instructor in the Veterinary Health Center. Dr. LeRoy also enjoys traveling, following her favorite sports teams, and spending time with her family, dog Sophie, and cats.

Michelle has been an Animal Physiotherapist for 17 years. After graduating initially as a Human Physiotherapist and Myofascial Trigger Point Therapist, she loved helping people but wanted to take her passion for dogs into her work, so she completed a Masters Degree in Animal Physiotherapy. As one of the great pioneers of the Canine rehabilitation Industry in Australia, she started the first Canine Physiotherapy and Hydrotherapy Centre for dogs in Victoria in 2002. Since then she has helped hundred of thousands of dogs to move better, feel better and for many, she has saved their lives, helping them to walk again.
Since opening the first clinic she has dedicated her time to helping as many dogs as possible have access to quality rehabilitation services through her various rehabilitation clinics and now through her Canine Health & Wellbeing Academy.
She has educated many physiotherapists, vets and nurses in the area of canine physiotherapy, hydrotherapy and remedial massage, both here in Australia and internationally. She believes providing high quality education and mentorship to therapists is paramount if we are to develop a group of therapists who have a high level of skills and knowledge, this ensuring our dogs have access to the best care possible.

Professor Mieke van Driel is Chair of General Practice Head of the Primary Care Clinical Unit in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Queensland. She is an experienced primary care researcher with an extensive track record in the generation, translation and implementation of research in general practice. This includes conducting clinical trials and trials of complex behaviour change interventions, such as judicious use of antibiotics. She has published widely on the review and critical appraisal of evidence with a view of increasing its relevance and utility in clinical practice. She has recently led the qualitative evaluations of a number of interventions aimed at improving rational prescribing of antibiotics in primary care. She is a chief investigator on a number of NHMRC projects and an ongoing cohort study of GP registrars (the Registrar Clinical Encounters in Training – ReCEnT study), which maps the training environment of our future workforce and simultaneously serves as a quality improvement and capacity building tool. Mieke has worked across 5 continents generating a wealth of experience in different health systems. In addition to her academic position she works as a general practitioner in an Aboriginal Medical Service.

Momoko is from Japan and moved to Brisbane in 2006. She completed a Bachelor of Veterinary Technology at the University of Queensland in 2011. She has worked in general practice before working at Brisbane Veterinary Specialist Centre. She started as a full-time rotating nurse at BVSC in 2011, then became BVSC's Primary Chemotherapy Nurse in 2013. Momoko also volunteered at the RSPCA Wildlife Hospital every Saturday for one year as well as taking casual shits at the BVECCS Emergency Centre.
In June 2018, Momoko passed the exam to become a Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS) in Oncology accredited by the Academy of Internal Medicine Veterinary Technicians in the US. She is currently the first and the only VTS (Oncology) in Australia. Her daily goal is to give our patients the best attentions and care, and also to be the better communication bridge between owners and veterinarians to achieve a good quality of life in cancer patients. Her interest is not only limited to Oncology but also Internal Medicine and Feline Behaviour and Handling.
Momoko grew up with 4-6 cats. She admits being a crazy cat lady who also loves dogs. She enjoys yoga, indoor soccer and occasional hiking.
