Dr Bennett is a graduate of the University of Melbourne. After time in general practice he completed residency training in small animal medicine in 1999 and then joined the faculty of Purdue University in Indiana where he was trained in oncology. He is a Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists (Canine Medicine) and a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Oncology, Small Animal Internal Medicine). Peter is a member of a consensus statement committee for the American College on Veterinary Internal Medicine on the topic of Chemotherapy Safety.

Peter graduated in veterinary science in 1976, completed a Diploma in Veterinary Anaesthesia at the University of Sydney in 1977 and the Fellowship of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists in 1982. Peter is a registered specialist in Veterinary Anaesthesiology and is held in high regard by the veterinary profession for his surgical ability. Peter's clinical skill was acknowledged by the Australian Veterinary Association by his appointment as "Small Animal Practitioner of the Year" in 1991. An avid reader of the scientific journal "Nature", Peter's brain has continued to expand to the point where it has displaced most of the hair from the front of his head! Although now retired, Peter is still well known and active in both the industry and local community.

Peter is an honorary senior lecturer in the Division of Social and Community Health in the School of Population Health at the University of Auckland. His teaching and research interests are in the area of therapeutic communication, loss and grief, vicarious traumatisation, and self-care. Although almost fully retired from the University, Peter maintains his links through teaching on some programmes and supervision of Master’s and Doctoral students. His activities outside of academic life include work as a Director for a large aged care organisation, time with grandchildren, performing in a Ukulele band, and working as a front line Ambulance Officer.

Peter graduated in veterinary science from the Royal Veterinary College, London University in 1982 and has a PhD from James Cook University (1991) for studies into canine babesiosis in Australia. Peter has worked in academia in Australia and overseas for more than 30 years as a teacher of companion animal medicine and as a researcher in the fields of veterinary parasitology and medical microbiology. He is an internationally recognized expert in vector-borne diseases. His current research concerns tick-borne infections of companion animals, wildlife and humans in Australia. Peter is appointed Professor Emeritus at Murdoch University and currently lives in Sunshine Coast, SE Queensland, where he works part time at a specialist hospital.

Dr Phil Tucak is a veterinarian, communications manager, and journalist, and as the Wildlife Outreach Vet, he also works to share the conversation about conservation. As a veterinary communications management consultant, Phil develops communications and marketing content for veterinary businesses, and science and conservation organisations. He regularly writes content for the Australian Veterinary Association and he curated content for the AVA’s Return to Work online learning resource. Phil has previously worked as Communications Manager for the Australian Wildlife Conservancy, Communications and Interpretation Coordinator for Perth Zoo, as a journalist for SBS News, and as a producer and presenter for the ABC. In 2020, Phil was awarded the Veterinary Business Professional of the Year.

Philip H Brain graduated from the University of Sydney in 1985 and after 13 years in general practice, completed a residency program in small animal medicine at the Veterinary Specialist Centre, North Ryde, NSW and gained his Fellowship in Small Animal Medicine from the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists in 2007. Phil served on ASAVA executive for 19 years including a Presidential term, two terms as Honorary Secretary and ASAVA scientific convener for 10 years. He was recognized with an AVA Meritorious Service Award in 1999, the ASAVA Distinguished Service Award in 2005 and a special ASAVA outstanding service award in 2010. He became the first veterinarian to receive a Chartered Membership (CMAVA) of the AVA in 2004. Phil was a scientific convener for FASAVA Congress in 2014 and is current convener for the 2017 congress. He was recognized with a service to veterinary nursing award in 1997 and was the first veterinarian to be awarded honorary membership of the Veterinary Nurses Council of Australia in 2003. He was awarded a fellowship from the AVA in 2007 in recognition of his service to the profession. In 2016 he received the ASAVA’s small animal Practitioner of the Year. Phil was also a member of the Veterinarian’s inaugural editorial advisory panel from 1994 until 2005 and is currently Australian editor for Life Learn. He is a registered specialist in small animal medicine and is currently practicing at the Small Animal Specialist Hospital (SASH) in North Ryde, Sydney and clinical interests include endoscopy, endocrinology and interventional techniques. He has been proud to have been speaking with Improve since 2014.

Graduated from the University of Sydney in 1986 and worked in cattle practice in western NSW and then mixed practices until cured of the desire to become a large animal practitioner. Moved to the UK in 1990 and began the long road to small animal surgical specialisation. Completed Certificate in Small Animal Orthopaedics at the Royal College in 1994 then worked in referral practice before returning to Australia in 1996. Commenced residency in small animal surgery in private practice in Brisbane completing MANZCVS in 1998. Moved to the University of Sydney as Senior Registrar then Head of Surgery in 2000. Travelled to the United States to the University of Florida as a visiting scholar in 2001 before returning as a founding partner of Veterinary Specialist Services in Brisbane. Completed FANZCVS in Small Animal Surgery and registered as a Specialist in 2003. Appointment as Professor with the University of Queensland. Surgical interests include urinary tract, vascular, neurological and orthopaedic surgery. Has undertaken research projects with Westmead Children’s Hospital in Sydney and the University of Queensland. Has presented at numerous conferences in Australia and overseas, published widely in Veterinary Journals as well as Textbooks. Philip is a Chartered Member of the AVA and an elected Member of AO. Philip was President of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Surgeons 2010-2014 and is currently a Councillor of the College. Philip has been one of two elected member of the Veterinary Surgeons Board of Queensland since 2009. In 2014 Philip was awarded the Inaugural Conservation Award by Australia Zoo for his surgical work with wildlife. Philip was the Mark S. Bloomberg Lecturer at the 2016 NAVC Conference in Florida.
Philip lectures widely in South East Asia to help promote and improve animal care. Philip also collects Cadillac motor cars and is the Vice President of the Cadillac La Salle Club of Queensland.
Philip is the father of six beautiful children, an owner of Pugs, Dachshunds and Burmese cats and a devoted supporter of the Queensland Reds and the Wallabies.

Aufgewachsen in einer Familie, die immer Tiere hatte, habe ich nach Abitur und Wehrpflicht wie selbstverständlich das Studium der Veterinärmedizin gewählt. Nach dem Studium in Gießen und dem Erlangen der Approbation absolvierte ich zunächst ein einjähriges Internship bei Cotts Farm Equine Hospital in Wales, GB. Danach zog es mich zur Doktorarbeit an das Tierspital nach Zürich in der Schweiz. Es folgten die Standard Large Animal Residency des ECVS in Hannover mit erfolgreichem Abschluss des ECVS Board Examens in 2016, die Anerkennung des Fachtierarzt für Pferdechirurgie und Positionen als Chirurg in unterschiedlichen Pferdekliniken Deutschlands. Seit August 2022 bin ich an der Tierklinik Lüsche GmbH in Norddeutschland tätig.

Dr Philippa Ravens graduated with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science from the University of Sydney in 2004. She worked in small animal general practice for 5 years before accepting a residency position in Veterinary Dermatology at the University of Sydney in 2009. She became a member of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists in Canine and Feline Medicine and completed a Masters degree in Veterinary Clinical Studies through Murdoch University in 2011. She was awarded a fellowship in Veterinary Dermatology through the Australian College in 2016. She is currently employed at the Small Animal Specialist Hospital (SASH) at their North Ryde and Tuggerah clinics as a Dermatology Specialist.

Herr Nelissen studierte an der Universität Gent in Belgien. Nach dem Studium blieb er für ein weiteres Jahr an der Universität, um ein einjähriges chirurgisches Internship zu absolvieren. In 2003 zog er dann nach Großbritannien und arbeitete dort zunächst für dreieinhalb Jahre in einer Kleintierpraxis und erwarb in dieser Zeit sein „Certificate in Small Animal Surgery (certSAS)“ (Facharzt in Kleintierchirurgie). Um sich weiter in der Chirurgie fortzubilden, wechselte er dann zu „Dick White Referrals“ in der Nähe von Cambridge, wo er ein weiteres einjähriges Internship absolvierte, gefolgt von einer Residency in der Chirurgie. Nach bestandener ECVS-Prüfung blieb er bis Juli 2017 als Oberarzt für Weichteilchirurgie in dieser Klinik tätig. Seit Oktober 2017 arbeitete Herr Nelissen in der Tierklinik Haar als Leitender Oberarzt für Weichteilchirurgie. Ab Januar 2020 war er Chefarzt der Chirurgie in der Anicura Tierklinik Haar. Im Jahr 2022 eröffnete er zusammen mit seiner Frau Dr. Anna Adrian ein reines Überweisungszentrum für Hunde und Katzen im Münchner Osten, die “Frontier Kleintierspezialisten”. Obwohl er alle Bereiche der Chirurgie abdeckt, liegt sein Schwerpunkt auf der Weichteilchirurgie. Sein besonderes Interesse liegt in der Minimalinvasiven Chirurgie, Thoraxchirurgie, Hals-Nasen-Ohrenchirurgie und chirurgischen Onkologie.

I graduated in 2001 from Ghent University in Belgium, after which I completed an internship in Small Animal Surgery. After a short spell in mixed practice, I moved to a small animal practice in the UK for 3 ½ years. During this time, I gained the RCVS Certificate in Small Animal Surgery. In February 2007 I joined Dick White Referrals as an intern. I completed my residency (under the supervision of Prof Dick White) in Small Animal Surgery in 2011. From 2011 I stayed on as a consultant in small animal surgery at Dick White Referrals. In 2013, I passed the exam and became a European Veterinary Specialist in Small Animal Surgery. I worked until July 2017 as a Soft tissue surgeon at DWR. In October 2017 I moved to Germany and started working in a referral centre just outside Munich (Tierklinik Haar). In March 2022, together with my wife Dr Anna Adrian we opened a brand-new multidisciplinary referral centre (FRONTIER veterinary Specialists) in eastern Munich. I enjoy all aspects of soft tissue surgery with a focus on ENT, wound management, thoracic surgery, surgical oncology and minimally invasive surgery.
I have written several book chapters and have authored and co-authored many peer reviewed papers and written numerous other publications about various surgical and non-surgical topics. I have been lecturing about topics in small animal surgery all over the world.
